Health & Safety Specialist

Job Description

The primary responsibility of this position is to provide support in order to achieve the desired Health & Safety performance objectives outlined by corporate initiatives, business unit initiatives, and local/site initiatives. This position reports to the Safety Manager and partners with operations to prioritize task and optimize safety at the plant.

•    Provide effective leadership to the Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) department through effective management of the Department’s resources to ensure continuous improvement in EHS performance
•    Prioritize and manage to protect people, processes, products from exposures to injury, risk or economic loss
•    Develop and maintain the safety, health, training and loss control efforts to ensure that plant and company goals and objectives are being met
•    Lead audits, inspections, and investigations and coordinate resolution of issues
•    Develop corrective action plan to respond to internal/external audits and inspections
•    Independently initiate, perform, and document safety and health audits, evaluations, inspections and/or behavioral observations throughout the operations. As well as communicate and facilitate the implementation of corrective and preventative actions
•    Strong cultural field presence to collaborate Production and Maintenance continuous improvement

Qualifications

•    Certification as CHST or OHST, ASP, CSP, CIH, and OSHA Outreach Trainer certifications a plus
•    Experience implementing ergonomic solutions in a manufacturing environment preferred
•    Must have a working knowledge of HSE Management Systems and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
•    Proficient knowledge of OSHA, NFPA, DOT, and other applicable government agencies
 

Education

•    Bachelor’s degree in Safety or Environmental Management or related field preferred; associates degree required
