Lead Mechanic

LEAD MILLWRIGHT OR INDUSTRIAL MAINTENANCE MECHANIC

 

EMPLOYEE MUST FAMILIARIZE THEMSELVES WITH ALL SAFETY RULES, WORK SAFELY, USE PROPER PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE), GOOD MANUFATURING PRACTICE (GMP) SAFETY DATA SHEET (SDS) AND LOCK OUT TAG OUT (LOTO) PROCEDURES WHERE REQUIRED. POSITION REQUIRES HARD HAT, SAFETY SHOES, SAFETY GLASSES WITH SIDE SHIELDS, AND RUBBER GLOVES FOR HANDLING HAZARDOUS CHEMICALS.

Summary of Responsibilities/Duties

Stepan is seeking a Lead Millwright or Industrial Maintenance Mechanic to ensure precision in repairs and installations, providing safe, efficient operation and functioning of all equipment and machines at our Fieldsboro, N.J. Plant. He/She will utilize troubleshooting techniques, problem-solving and continuous improvement methods on faulty equipment(s) and systems (as needed). He/She will provide written and verbal communications to peers and designated leader(s).

Additional skill-sets include having basic electrical working knowledge, to advanced 220/480V experience (Arch Flash trained and understanding of PLC, is a plus). Computer usage, understanding of computerized maintenance management systems (Oracle and/or SAP) as it relates to work order processes (is a plus). He/She, is expected to lead other mechanics, support the Maintenance Planner and Supervisors to ensure scheduled work for the maintenance team is completed on time with precision for long term reliability.  He/She will assist in training peers and new hires as well as maintaining personal technical knowledge via all required recertifications and/or refresher workshops.

Job Skills & Qualifications

  • Inspect, maintain and repair electrical, mechanic, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment and machinery to ensure they’re always in proper working order.
  • Understanding of computers and ability to navigate the various maintenance programs.
  • Able to be trained and certified for Confined Space Entry.
  • Ability to analyze, problem solve and think strategically to solve equipment issues and determine root cause failures. 
  • Able to disassemble and re-assemble machinery and/or equipment, using specialized tooling, i.e., laser alignment instrumentation, power and hand tools. 
  • Able to work in confined spaces utilizing appropriate respiratory equipment.
  • Attending and/or leading daily meetings and scheduled training workshops where required, and assisting with training of all new hires.
  • Controlling downtime by communicating with staff and implementing contingency strategies, based on data and measurable information.
  • Completing preventive maintenance requirements on pumps, motors, pneumatic tools, electrical systems, and production machines; by following diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications; troubleshooting malfunctions.
  • Locates sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation; listening for problems; using precision measuring and testing instruments.
  • Controls downtime by informing production workers of routine preventive maintenance techniques; monitoring compliance.
  • Prepares mechanical maintenance reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and data.
  • Work in conjunction with Operations on daily operational engineering related issues and with continuous improvement teams.
  • Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing technical publications; establishing personal networks.
  • Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  • Perform other related maintenance duties and assist in other areas as directed.
  • Record all maintenance and repair tasks performed and reporting completions to MP or MGR, keep track of all materials and parts used during the repair process.

 

Position Requirements:

 

  • Two-years Technical school training in Mechanical, Electrical, or any relevant Engineering discipline. Or minimum 4 years career experiences.
  • Willingness to work overtime as necessary and respond to rotating call-ins during off shift periods.

 

Physical Demands:

 

  • Use hands and fingers fully; reach for, manipulate and feel objects; stoop; kneel; crouch, crawl, and climb maintaining body balance on ladders, scaffolding or high structures and see and hear well.
  • Lift and carry objects weighing up to 60 pounds.
  • Stoop, lay, bend or squat for long periods of time.
