Analytical Group Leader - GLP

Job Description

The Analytical Group Leader-GLP is responsible for the overall work effort and personnel in the Rapid Analytical Testing Services (RATS) and EPA Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) labs at Stepan Company - Northfield R&D.   Formally assigned the Test Facility Manager (TFM) for all EPA regulated activities in the Analytical lab.  Demonstrates capabilities related to a broad set of analysis methods for surfactants and polymers, including but not limited to various titration techniques, Gas Chromatography (GC), Liquid Chromatography (LC), Ion Chromatography (IC), Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP), and various other physical property measurements.  Problem solves and troubleshoots instrument/method issues.  Effectively drives small technical teams for results, precision, accuracy, and efficiency.  Provides technical advice and training to direct reports and colleagues. May direct the work of three or more group members closely, with four or more technicians under the direct reports.  Communicates effectively with internal customers/stakeholders and documents meticulously.  Builds constructive relationships with other WGs and departments to build bridges and remove barriers; relates well throughout the organization.  Independently develops short term and long term resource plans and has responsibility for managing/leading projects through assigning/delegating, hiring, training, scheduling, coordinating, and following-up activities.  Presents technical information such as new products, technologies, methods, etc. to customers and industry conferences. Actively participates in safety/waste programs and steadfastly adheres to safety policies/standards. Conceives of projects and ideas to contribute to the overall growth of Stepan.

Qualifications

  • 3-5 Years Industry experience required; 6-10 Years Experience Preferred depending on depth of experience prior to Industry.
  • Must have EPA GLP documentation and auditing experience, as well as recent laboratory experience in analytical chemistry. 
  • Demonstrated ability to lead small teams and use communications tools appropriate for the target audience. People management experience required.
  • Familiarity with data and error analysis, small group leadership, negotiation with customers/stakeholders, and developing subject matter experts and other team leaders.  
  • Must be self-motivated and able to foster collaboration with other team members.. 

Education

  • B.S. in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or closely related field required; PhD Preferred
