EHS&S Specialist

Job Description

Responsible to provide oversight and support to ensure that all equipment and processes meet business and regulatory requirements regarding Safety, Health, and Emergency Response

•Program ownership includes, but not limited to: Site Waste programs, SPCC, Fugitive Emissions & LDAR, Stormwater, Wastewater, Groundwater, Laboratory Safety, Transportation, Emergency Response, & Fire Protection
•Development, implementation and continuous improvement of the site’s EH&S compliance programs
•Provide facility personnel with timely technical support, guidance & resources to maintain compliance with applicable EPA & OSHA laws, regulations, company performance standards and site procedures
•Promote a strong EHS culture which supporting an injury-free workplace where employees take responsibility for their safety as well as that of others
•Identify & address unsafe acts, unsafe conditions, hazards, & environmental risks in work area(s) & evaluate the ensuing correction(s)
•Lead incident investigations, including follow-up actions as required
•Develop, manage, & maintain EHS&S programs to drive continuous improvement, prevention, and compliance
•Drive risk assessment processes including but not limited to; program assessments, job hazard analysis & (PPE) personal protective equipment, industrial hygiene, LOTO, & permit audits
•Facilitate training events, EHS&S activities, process improvements, visual controls, & other ad hoc programs as appropriate
•Monitor, inspect & maintain emergency response equipment & safety supply inventory (includes safety signage throughout plant), respirator cleaning, manage the Class D Breathing Air, haz mat response supply inventory, refill breathing air bottles, inspect AED’s, SCBA’s, SKA’s, and ELSA paks. Maintain PID’s, & gas testing equipment
•Track emerging EHS & ensure appropriate site personnel understand the impact to their area. Provide support and seek appropriate resources to assist site in implementing proactive strategies to address these issues
•Identify and/or conduct EHS&S-related training to improve site EHS& S performance
•Serve as a resource to the production team as EHS questions or issues arise
•Develop, schedule, deliver & track effective EHS trainingimprovements
•Back up for Quality Lab Technician


  • 5+years of working in large scale industrial chemical process operations with experience in a laboratory, environmental or safety role in a manufacturing setting
  • Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or (ASP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or designation.
  • Experience with analytical methods and instrumentation such as GC, FT-NIR, titrators, viscometers
  • Must be Forklift Certified or be able to obtain certification within 90 days of hire.
  • Strong understanding and experience (minimum 3 years) of working in large scale industrial chemical process operations with experience in a laboratory, environmental or safety role in a manufacturing setting or equivalent.
  • Strong interpersonal skills – ability to lead teams – team members
  • Demonstrated knowledge of EHS regulations (EPA, OSHA, ANSI, NFPA). 
  • Strong skills in Microsoft office software - Work, Excel, and PowerPoint


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Science or related field
