Process Engineering Team Leader

Job Description

Stepan is currently looking for a Process Engineering Team Leader for our plant located in Wilmington, NC.   The purpose of this role is to provide technical leadership, long term strategy and vision to the Engineering Team and site Process Safety Management system, to include Safety, Quality, Capital execution, process improvements, Reliability, Mechanical Integrity/PSM, Planning and Scheduling.  Responsible for the development and execution of capital projects through construction and start-up. 

 

Key Responsibilities are, but not limited to:

  • Administer site Process Safety Management (PSM) program utilizing available site manpower resources to maintain regulatory requirements.  
  • Create and promote an environment within the Engineering team that achieves incident free performance through diligent proactive safety efforts and job safety planning.
  • Actively participate and contribute to all safety programs to continually improve the safety culture of the Company
  • Ensure that all engineering activities comply with OSHA, PSM and other regulatory requirements.
  • Manage the overall administration of plant policies and procedures in the Engineering team.
  • Provide Front End Loading (FEL) estimates to define and scope projects, evaluating process engineering alternatives based on technical feasibility and economics
  • Implement and manage capital and expense projects through the department as needed for growth, asset replacement, reliability upgrades, needed improvements and asset refurbishment.
  • Responsible for the engineering expenses and 5-year capital plan.  Participates in setting the budget.
  • Attempt to capture and document the savings and opportunities of resolved issues.
  • Lead development of technical deliverables on key capital projects and plant optimizations to ensure safe, workable, cost-effective solutions are being developed that will meet the defined business/project objectives. 

 

Qualifications

  • Chemical plant experienced required
  • Experience in PSM covered process required
  • Five (5)  plus years experience required
  • Experience utilizing a process data historian for troubleshooting required (OSI PI preferred)
  • Track record of projects executed ($25K-$3MM range) required
  • Supervisory/Management experience in an Engineering or Project Execution capacity desired
  • Experience with ISO and Responsible Care desired
  • Batch chemical process experience desired
  • Experience using Front End Loading (FEL) desired
  • Experience working with external engineering resources desired
  • Demonstrated strong ability in process design including distillation, mass transfer, reaction, kinetics, and thermodynamics

Education

Bachelor’s degree (BS) in Engineering required (Chemical preferred)
