Our Standard Hiring Process

At Stepan Company, we strive to provide a simple, efficient, and transparent screening and interview process that allows us to assess the people we hire based on skill set and potential. We value hiring people whose personal values align with our company values, while also adding something unique to our organization. While our hiring process is straightforward, we’d like to provide some tips as you move through the process.


We encourage you to apply to one or two jobs you are truly passionate about and align with your skills and experience. When you apply to several jobs, it can be confusing to determine what you truly want to do and are qualified for. Make sure any documentation you provide is succinct, error free, and includes specific details such as dollars or time saved, number of direct reports, or other relevant metrics.


Applications are reviewed by our Talent Acquisition Team members. Depending on the number of candidates applying to each job it may take some time for someone to reach out to you to schedule an initial conversation. We may talk to you about the job you applied to or another job that may be better suited to your background. We love questions during these conversations! As much as we want to personally speak with everyone who applies to Stepan we are not always able to make personal contact due to the volume of applications we receive.


After speaking with our Talent Acquisition Team, you will have another conversation with the direct manager of the job you applied to. If that goes well, we will invite you onsite to meet with several Stepan team members. Some more senior jobs require an online assessment. We recognize interviewing for a job can be time consuming and difficult to prioritize so we try to limit our hiring process to these steps.


You will receive a verbal offer from your Talent Acquisition contact if you are selected for a job with Stepan Company. Upon verbal acceptance, we will send you a written e-offer letter through our careers portal. Offers are determined based on the individual’s skills and experience, competitive market analysis, and internal equity. We put a lot of thought into our offers and do our best to meet your compensation expectations with our first offer.
