Job Description

Stepan is seeking a Project Engineer to join our plant team in Anaheim, CA. In this role, you will report to the Plant Manager and be an integral member of the Plant Leadership Team. The individual in this role will plan, coordinate, monitor, and execute internal projects from initiation through completion. This position manages and supports the planning and implementation of capital projects at the plant while supporting the site’s safety/compliance, reliability, infrastructure, and continuous improvement efforts.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manages the plant’s capital planning process and capital investment project portfolio, including ownership for plant capital plan & budget.
  • Responsible for project delivery process and define project scope, goals, and deliverables that support business objectives, plant safety, reliability, and improvement efforts.
  • Apply technical knowledge, experience, and analysis to understand complex designs and interact with contractors and engineering groups (internal/external) to understand the minimum effective design solution for various operating and infrastructure problems and for the installation of new/modified equipment.
  • Review and understand equipment and instrumentation/electrical specifications to ensure equipment and materials are procured and installed as per regulatory requirements (OSHA, EPA, NFPA 70, ASME, PSM, API, etc.) and Stepan engineering standards.
  • Lead, promote, and maintain safety culture for all contractor & construction personnel through auditing/feedback, training, and performing safety contacts & toolbox talks on plant projects.
  • Clearly define project scope, deliverables, safety, and cost objectives and appropriately hold contractors accountable.
  • Ensure timely and accurate billing, actively work to resolve issues, and properly account/accrue for all materials and services delivered.

Qualifications

  • 3 – 5 years of experience managing Capital Projects within a manufacturing environment. 5+ years of experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of project delivery Process/Front-End Loading (FEL) and project estimating.
  • Familiar with Auto CAD and SAP or similar systems.
  • Knowledge of codes, standards, and Non Destructive testing (NDE) requirements, including electrical.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a wide variety of sources, including upper management, other departments, external contractors, and operations/operators. 
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills and ability to compile & analyze data.

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering – Mechanical Engineering preferred.

Compensation Range:  Min $80,610 – $136,623 Max
