Mechanic

Stepan Company located in Columbus, GA is seeking to fill the postion of E&I Maintenance Mechanic inspects, tests, repairs, installs, and maintains electrical and instrumentation for production and process equipment in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operation manuals, and manufacturer’s specifications. Will need to provide support for all aspects of maintenance for a chemical facility including but not limited to:

  • Rebuilding, replacement and alignment of rotating equipment.
  • mechanical repair of process equipment of tanks, vessels, heat exchangers and columns

           electrical repair up to and including 480v service

Safety:

  • Adheres to all HSE, procedures
  • Operates equipment in a safe and correct manner and ensures that people wear correct PPE
  • Responds to near misses and dangerous occurrences. Assists with accident investigations
  • Assists safety audits and inspections and completes actions on time
  • Accepts responsibility for teams housekeeping standards within area
  • Uses all the appropriate guarding on machine tools
  • E/I must also follow lockout/tagout procedures & NFPA 70E policy

Reponsibilities:

  • Sets and promotes high maintenance standards
  • Ensures adherence to paperwork and computer systems
  • Responsible for all types of maintenance repairs including pump repair, building repair, with a strong understanding   on electrical and instrumentation.
  • Inspect, test, troubleshoot, repair, install, and maintain electrical equipment including but not limited to motors (all types), starters, breakers, transformers, isolation switches, relays, fuses, resistors, air conditioning, valves, AC Drives, DC Drives, electrical cable, fiber optic cable, coaxial cable, conduit, receptacles, PLC’s, heaters, control panels, lights & lighting panels, cranes or other lifting devices, distributive controls, UPS, fire & emergency alarms, , disposal of bulbs and other hazardous material, open and close shutters on nuclear devices, and cable trays.
  • Responsible for all aspects of Stepan Instrumentation and/or electrical activities including but not limited to the day-to-day upkeep and calibration of process control equipment and safe operations of the Plant Facility.
  • The E&I Technician will follow the schedule for periodic testing, maintenance and calibration of instrumentation, control and electrical equipment in the facility.
  • The E&I Technician will be required to repair or replace electrical equipment control system end devices.  
  • The E&I Technician will have a working knowledge of PLC devices and configuration of configuration of plant process control system programming including but not limited to, SCADA and motor controls will be required. 
  • The E&I Technician must be able to follow both verbal and written instructions.
  • Shift E/I must respond to calls from production or maintenance in a timely manner, attend weekly production start of shift safety meetings, and communicate issues through verbal & written means.

Eductional Requirements:

    • High School Diploma or GED
    • 1-2 years technical school or equivalent.
    • Experience of 3-5 years in maintenance environment.
