API Inspector

Job Description

The primary responsibility of this position is to provide API inspection services and technical support as well as make risk based technical decisions on asset health and repairs for all fixed equipment.  This position reports to the Reliability Manager and partners with operations to prioritize Mechanical Integrity preventive maintenance (PM) and perform inspections.  

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
•    Ensure all fixed equipment Mechanical Integrity activities meet or exceed the corporate and local jurisdictional requirements
•    Provide Mechanical Integrity technical assistance and support the operating and maintenance departments to improve reliability
•    Perform risk-based analysis, develops/modifies inspection plans, coordinates/supervise inspections, evaluates inspection results, performs remaining life calculations, develops run/repair/replace recommendations, tracks inspection recommendations to closure and keeps all inspection data current and evergreen
•    Perform fitness for service level 1 assessment using API 579 for all damage mechanisms except for crack like indications
•    Work with a cross-functional production team to develop Mechanical Integrity solutions
•    Perform Quality Assurance (QA) surveillance of stationary equipment maintenance work to ensure compliance, as well as, review and approve repair plan to correct non-conformances
•    Participate in incident investigations and Root Cause Failure Analyses
•    Develop stationary equipment inspection and repair scope for the turnaround and coordinating inspection activities during the turnaround
•    Develop Inspection Test Plans (ITP) and perform QA surveillance on repair jobs
•    Generate and lead inspection scope of work for shutdowns

Qualifications

•    Minimum of one (1) of the following API Certifications required – API 510, API 570, API 653
•    Minimum of three (3) years of experience in the chemical or equivalent industry 
•    Certifiable as a Level II NDE examiner in at least two of the following areas required: UT-thickness, MT, PT and VT 
•    Proficient with computer programs (Excel, Word, Ultra-Pipe, etc.) and strong verbal and written communication skills are required
•    Strong knowledge of inspection and repair requirements of API, ASME, NBIC and state/local regulations
•    Strong working knowledge of damage mechanisms leading to equipment failure

Education

•    A high school diploma or equivalent degree required
