Job Description

Stepan Company is seeking a Controls System Engineering intern pursuing a BS in Chemical Engineering or Electrical Engineering to join our Controls team at our Millsdale Chemical Manufacturing facility in Elwood, Illinois.  As a Controls System Engineering intern at Stepan Company, you will work on a variety of productivity and industrial automation projects that have a direct impact on the organization and gain hands-on, real world work experience alongside our experienced engineers in a chemical manufacturing plant. The controls engineering intern will have the opportunity to be involved in one or more stages of a project that may include design, development, testing and commissioning.  
 
Key Responsibilities

  • Support the creation or development of productivity tools specifically as it relates to industrial automation
  • Participate in opportunities for control system design and programming including:
    • PLC Programming
    • HMI Programming
    • Field Investigation
    • System Documentation
    • Operator Training Manuals
  • Assist operations and maintenance with troubleshooting and problem solving

Qualifications

  • Some technical knowledge in general engineering principles
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and work independently
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills and attention to detail
  • Desire or experience in working with one or more programming languages

Education

  • A rising Senior currently enrolled at an accredited university, majoring in Chemical Engineering or a rising Junior or Senior in Electrical Engineering
  • High School diploma or equivalent.

Pay Range: $26.00-28.00/hour

The pay range for this position is determined by considering a variety of factors such as skills, experience, qualifications, and the location of the position.
