Stepan is currently seeking a Mechanic for our Millsdale Plant located in Elwood, Illinois. The Mechanic will provide maintenance support to production areas to assure stable operations and provide continuous improvement. These responsibilities include developing and promoting safe work practices for maintaining plant equipment.
Pay Range: $40.91 - $45.33

Job Description
The main responsibilities for the Apprentice Mechanic role include:
- Rebuild/replace pumps to maintain movement of intermediates and finished products
- Install / Replace piping to maintain movement of intermediates and finished products
- Troubleshoot malfunctioning equipment to determine repair process
- Perform preventative maintenance and inspections to reduce equipment failures
- Determine whether an existing piece of equipment should be repaired or replaced
- Perform welding, preventative maintenance and repairs
- Perform general facility and equipment repairs as needed
- Demonstrate a commitment to safety in all aspects
- Support peers and other departments with a positive attitude
Requirements:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Pass mechanical aptitude test
- Experience with pump disassembly and reassembly
- Positive attitude and commitment to striving for excellence
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Computer skills and the ability to navigate the various maintenance programs
- Ability to analyze, problem solve, and think strategically to solve equipment issues and determine root cause failures
