PTD Analyst III

Location: 

Elwood, IL, US, 60421

The PTD Analyst III provides perform semi-routine and/or moderately complex chemical and physical analyses on a variety of materials for the support of research, development, and production activities. Attention to detail and basic computer skills are required in order to document accurate analysis.  This position operates a wide variety of analytical testing instrumentation (GC, GCMS, FTIR, NIR, HPLC, Titrators, etc.) following standard analytical procedures (Stepan Methods). Individual must be able to work well in a team environment and provide training to Operators as necessary.  This position also requires an individual who possesses critical thinking skills and one who is proactive and reliable to support the department’s objectives. 


•    Proactively perform assignments with no supervision, such as analytical equipment operation, equipment maintenance, standardization, documentation, etc. 
•    Ability to gather, analyze, interpret relevant data
•    Compiles, evaluates, and submits results of tests
•    Develop solutions to problems of limited scope and complicity using scientific knowledge without supervision
•    Ability to identify problems, solutions, and implement solution without guidance from supervisor 
•    Participate in PTD safety/waste programs and steadfastly adheres to safety policies/standards
•    Understand established Stepan work processes to complete projects (SOP, MOC, AFE, JSA, PSM, ISO etc.)
•    Use available resources and databases to search technical info (e.g., Methods Database, Scientific Chemical Journal Articles, SDS sheets)
•    Enter and maintain accurate ELN records
•    Conduct assigned tasks without guidance and supervision
•    Contribute ideas and suggestions for improving department infrastructure and work processes 
•    Share technical knowledge with internal and external customers
•    Communicate project results internally (to supervisor, project leader, requester, etc.)

Qualifications: 

•    10 to 15 years of relevant work experience  
•    Ability to lift 50 pounds  
•    Strong problem solving, negotiation, communication and organization skills
•    Ability to partner with operations and engineering to implement improvements in a research and development environment  

Education: 


•    Bachelor's degree in Chemistry required
