PTD Specialist II

Job Description

Stepan is seeking a PTD Specialist II to join our team in the Process Technology Department (PTD) at Stepan Millsdale. In this role, you will report to the PTD Technical Director.  The role involves designing complex research strategies, developing innovative chemical engineering solutions, leading pilot development, managing projects, and mentoring junior engineers. It also focuses on improving process efficiency and staying updated with industry advancements.

 

  • Independently design overall research strategy (including DOE) for complex projects
  • Apply extensive expertise with significant breath or depth of chemical engineering and other relevant principles, theories, and concepts to assignments where precedents typically do not exist.
  • Develop solutions to complex problems that require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity 
  • Lead product and process pilot development and scale-up
  • Identify opportunities and develop solutions to improve process efficiency and reduce product cost which result in tangible financial contributions (>$250,000/year).
  • Develop in-depth technical knowledge and vision in multiple areas
  • Contribute to major Project and Platform team
  • Conduct fundamental and innovative research, which contributes to Stepan growth
  • Remain abreast of current industrial developments, patents and literature pertinent to fields of expertise
  • Initiate projects improving department infrastructure and work processes
  • Have complete responsibility for managing/leading projects (planning, scheduling, coordinating, and following up)
  • Assist Sr. technical leaders to develop research programs or projects
  • Communicate project results and promotes technology of interests to ML plant technical team and R&D colleagues in multiple areas
  • Lead PTD safety/waste programs and act as a safety mentor to less experience engineers
  • Begin to review technical documents (ELN, technical report, presentations) for less experienced engineer to assure quality and value
  • Effectively utilize statistic tools for data analysis and results interpretation and provide trainings to less experience engineers
     

Qualifications

•    Minimum of 5 years of related experience 
•    Preferred research experience in a Pilot Plant 

Education

•    Bachelors degree required  

 

Pay Range: $64,000 - $92,000

The salary range for this position is determined by considering a variety of factors such as skills, experience, qualifications, and the location of the position.
