Job Description
Come join Stepan's Project Management Team as a Project Engineer/Senior Project Engineer. You will be managing small to medium sized projects making a direct impact at a leading and ever-evolving chemical manufacturing company.
- Manage a set of small to medium size projects in a PSM chemical manufacturing facility, and/or support a senior team member in management and execution of larger projects or programs.
- Develop thorough and complete project scope, utilizing input from stakeholders including management, plant operations, EHS&S, engineering, maintenance, automation and others as appropriate.
- Support the project option evaluation process. Work with team members to identify and analyze the slate of alternatives to satisfy the project objectives and select the best option for the company.
- Review technical submittals from all 3rd party engineers and equipment vendors to ensure the design meets engineering requirements and is optimized for safety, operability, maintainability, constructability, and cost expectations. Coordinate the review and sign-off process of the technical submittals with internal stakeholders.
- Monitors and controls project scope, schedule, budget, resources, quality control requirements, and risks throughout the project.
- Collaborate with Construction Engineering to plan construction of the project. Support the project through construction, especially addressing technical inquiries arising during construction.
- Develop, own, and manage the project schedule.
- Collaborate with Estimating Resources or develops own project cost estimates to establish project budgets. Author and submit project funding request documentation.
- Track all financial costs, and provide periodic budget updates and cash flow forecasts.
- Manage risks on small projects, and support the risk management process on larger projects. Able to develop risk management plans as required for larger projects.
- Estimate the effort required for internal resources on each project assigned, and provide oversight of internal resources to ensure timely completion of project deliverables.
- Collaborate with team members to develop the construction quality assurance and commissioning requirements. Participate in the commissioning process, overseeing that all project deliverables are successfully completed.
- Partner with Procurement Department to develop Procurement plan for all materials and labor for assigned projects. Develop scopes of work for 3rd party services including engineering and construction trades. Conducts RFQ and pre-bid walkdowns in support of the procurement process.
- External interaction including but not limited to: equipment vendors, construction contractors, engineering services contractors, and local government agencies.
- Prepare project reports, cash flow forecasting, using standardized format.
Qualifications
• 0-10+ years experience
• Owner Project Engineering and/or Engineering Firm experience preferred. Expected to have experience with a range of process equipment, electrical infrastructure, and process controls systems.
• Must have the ability to lead project teams, prioritize and delegating work, encourage productivity and decision making, work proactively to solve problems and overcome obstacles
• Must be proficient user of MS Office, MS Teams
• Proficiency in MS Project, MS Sharepoint preferred
• Experience with SAP preferred
• Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical documents and CAD drawings.
Must be able to lift 50 lbs, and perform field walk-downs in an industrial facility. Mobility requirements include climbing fixed industrial stairs, ladders, and use fall protection as required.
A valid driver’s license is required.
Education
• Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Civil/Structural Engineering.

Pay Range: $81,000 - $124,000
The salary range for this position is determined by considering a variety of factors such as skills, experience, qualifications, and the location of the position.
