Safety Manager

Job Description

The Safety Manager is accountable for providing leadership and direction to achieve a safe workplace through management commitment and employee ownership. Partners with the Senior EHS&S Manager to establish a behavioral based safety culture and leads employees and management to implement and execute safety culture. Ensure safety systems and processes effectively address facilities risk profile.  Drives continual improvement, while managing complex problems and coordinating the implementation of solutions. 

 

Responsibilities includes but are not limited to:
• Oversees the Safety and Security programs and activities for ML site and ensures company and regulatory compliance including OSHA, state and local requirements
• Drives adoption and compliance to all processes, meetings and procedures of the area's Management Operating System to ensure timely decision making and clear action items
• Directs safety team in delivering programs, Process Safety Management and Process Hazard Analysis
• Plans, coordinates and drives safety and security projects / programs using clear methods of risk analysis (i.e. LOPA / HAZOP).  Oversees Safety & Security related incident and near-miss investigations. Ensures corrective actions are identified, documented and implemented
• Manages all security aspects of the site including plant personnel access, visitor control and traffic access to the plant
• Oversees workers’ compensation program and ensures coordination with the workers’ compensation carrier contact
• Ensures site Emergency Response Plan in place and in accordance with OSHA regulations
• Oversees required training to ensure site resources are prepared in the event of emergency
• Oversees all site risk analyses and gap closure activities associated with safety and security
• Ensures and drives safety department participation in Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR) for new installations and unit startups 

Qualifications

• Minimum of 10 years of experience in Health/Safety in a manufacturing/industrial environment
• Minimum of 3 years of previous supervisory experience
• Knowledge and experience with OSHA regulations and VPP programs
• Process Safety Management knowledge, skills and experience
• Working knowledge of Worker’s Compensation Regulation & Process Management

 

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field
