Job Description
Stepan is currently hiring a Senior Project Manager to join our North America Regional Engineering Team and execute major capital projects and programs (typically $5MM+) using Stepan’s capital management and Stage Gated Project Delivery Processes from Front End Loading (FEL) through start-up.
- Formulate, develop, and manage a cohesive Project Team organization
- Supervise the internal project support team, including project engineers, project controls, construction managers, and QA/QC inspectors
- Lead a Project Team to deliver assigned Projects on schedule, within budget, and with world-class safety performance
- Manage projects through Front End Loading phases, including the option evaluation process
- Responsible for guiding stakeholders to obtain alignment on project objectives and development of project scope. Responsible for ensuring the operability, maintainability, and quality of hard project deliverables, and accuracy of engineering deliverables
- Perform direct oversight and supervision of an Engineering Contractor to ensure adequacy and completeness of all engineering deliverables from FEL stage through construction and start-up
- Monitor and control the project scope, cost and schedule changes
- Project stakeholder management. Identify and engage project stakeholders to ensure support and alignment throughout the project process. Integrate Operations team support to produce a design with operability, maintainability, and safety in mind
- Coordinate with internal EHS group and consultants to manage environmental permitting process
- Work with Construction Engineering to plan construction of the project. Support the project through construction, especially addressing technical inquiries arising during construction
- Develop, monitor, and control project schedule and budget, including financial tracking
- Identify and manage project risks. Create, manage, and own the project risk management plan on major projects
- Estimate the effort required for internal resources on each project assigned. Identify, marshal, and manage external resources as required to support the project execution plan
- Manage the quality of all project deliverables, including engineering and hard deliverables. Work with team members to develop the construction quality assurance and commissioning requirements. Participate in the commissioning process, overseeing that all project quality control deliverables are successfully completed
- Mentor and develop junior members of staff as assigned
- Ability to effectively tailor and present information to a wide range of audiences (front line workers through plant leadership) and respond to questions of managers and customers
- Create reports to communicate key information including budget, project approval summary, and capital project projections to stakeholders
- Track multiple aspects of project progress and barriers, and prepare summaries for communication with senior management (internal and external)
Qualifications
- 20+ years of managing a wide variety of capital projects in PSM process industry (chemical, petrochemical, refining, etc)
- Must have owner experience leading projects from chartering through commissioning. Expected to have experience with a diverse range of process equipment, electrical infrastructure, and process controls systems.
- Must have experience leading project teams, prioritizing and delegating work, driving productivity and decision making, proactively solving problems and overcoming obstacles
- Must have demonstrated experience influencing team members and stakeholders to affect a positive outcome.
- Experience with SAP preferred
- Experience and expertise in reading, analyzing, and interpreting technical documents and CAD Drawings
Must be able to lift 50 lbs, and perform field walk-downs in an industrial facility.
Mobility requirements include climbing fixed industrial stairs, ladders, and use fall protection as required.
A valid driver’s license is required.
Education
