Job Description

Stepan is seeking a Transportation Planner to join our Transportation team in Joliet, IL. In this role, you will report to the Transportation Team Lead. The Transportation Planner secures services from transportation providers to meet company and customer shipping requirements. This team member will use SAP and TMS (transportation management systems) to plan and optimize transportation shipments. 

Key Responsibilities:

• Effectively manage carrier selection utilizing the Transportation Management System (TMS)
• Following the current carrier rt guide while meeting the requirements and objectives of our customers and manufacturing sites.
• Proficiency in executing load tendering processes with timely follow up.
• Able to create effective plans to meet customer service requirements at the optimal cost.
• Collaborate with Stepan Manufacturing sites to ensure takeaway needs are met by utilizing carrier tanker trlr’s or containers through preloading, forward staging, or providing interplant options.
• Address all assignment-specific shipment events and problem solve resolution with internal and external stakeholders (Carriers, PPIC, Customer Service, Plants, Tollers, Trans loaders, and Outside Warehouses).
• Able to understand freight performance measures, support investigation, and provide feedback on carrier performance.
• Monitors and actively engages in carrier performance to drive high service metrics.

Qualifications

• TMS/SAP experience preferred.
• Strong skills in Microsoft Office Applications
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Ability to work cohesively with multiple teams and develop solutions by engaging internal and external stakeholders.

Education

• 1-3 years’ relevant experience required; 3-5 years’ experience preferred.
• High School Diploma Required, bachelor’s degree preferred.

Pay Range: $49,000 - $60,000

The salary range for this position is determined by considering a variety of factors such as skills, experience, qualifications, and the location of the position.
