Job Description

Stepan Company (SCL) is hiring an EH&S Manager at our Maywood, NJ manufacturing plant. This position helps drive that: 

  • All employees must complete initial plant orientation, all required safety/regulatory training and comply with applicable PSM standards as well as EH&S Responsibilities.
  • All employees must also work in accordance with company policies and procedures regarding employment, safety, FSMA requirements including quality, Food Safety, product safety, good manufacturing practices, legality, security, and regulatory compliance as applicable.


Regulatory Compliance:  

  • Responsible for OSHA regulatory compliance i.e. HAZCOM, PPE, Respirator Program, Lockout/Tagout, Fall Protection, Scheduling and completion of regulatory training.  
  • Responsible for tracking training to ensure compliance.  Effectively administrate property and workers compensation issuance matters.
  • Participate on Regulatory audits and develop corrective actions and track completion for audit findings.

Plant Leadership:  

  • Directs and coordinates the Health and Safety program, PSM, RCMS, and Loss Control activities towards continuous improvement.
  • Identify and develop action plans to eliminate barriers to “incident free performance”.
  • Prioritize and manage to protect people, processes, products and the environment from exposures to injury, risk or economic loss.

Safety Training:  

  • Develop, prioritize, and implement projects/programs to protect people, processes, products, and the environment from exposures to injury, risk, or economic loss.
  • Develop, implement, maintain, and improve a targeted Behavior Based Safety Program.

Safety Programs and Policies:  

  • Ensure the plant has an effective tracking system for incident investigation and corrective action completion.  
  • Enforces PSM compliance, ensuring requirements are clearly defined and adhered to by departmental managers. 
  • Site Champion for ACC’s Responsible Care Management Systems.  
  • Responsible for the site’s Occupational Health and Industrial Hygiene system implementation and oversight.  
  • Develop and maintain an effective emergency response organization capable of handling a broad range of fire, chemical release or medical emergencies.  
  • Collaborate with corporate EHS as well as other plants and organizations to provide guidance and technical support to meet goals and objectives, and for implementing new processes, technology changes, and other regulatory affairs.  

Environmental:  

  • Primary contact for governmental reporting agencies.
  • Assures Health and Safety regulatory compliance requirements are clearly defined, understood and adhered to by department managers
  • Assures that EH&S training records are maintained.
  • Acts as the contact point for community related EH&S activities and issues.
  • Assures employees are actively involved in ACC’s Responsible Care initiatives.
  • Acts as a investigation focal point in post-event root cause failure investigations.

Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

  • Participate in the Quality and Food Safety Management System.

Qualifications

Minimum 8 years related EHS experience.

Proven track record driving EHS efforts with strong employee engagement.

Education

Bachelors degree required; Masters degree a plus!
