Job Description

The Data Architect is accountable for designing & implementing Stepan’s enterprise data lake including architecture, defining & managing critical integrations, and influencing data governance. This role reports to the Director of Enterprise Applications & Data; partners heavily with IT and business function peers.

 

The Data Architect will collaborate with the VP of IT and the Director of Enterprise Applications & Data to create, mature, and refresh the global data architecture strategic roadmap, policies, and procedures with the objective of securely unleashing business, IT, and production data enabling Stepan employees to drive operations excellence and business growth. The role is hands-on.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement scalable data architecture solutions to support master data management, analytics, and AI initiatives.
  • Collaborate with IT Analytics and Business Solutions stakeholders to create data environment that creates enterprise value.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand data requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
  • Develop and maintain data models, data flow diagrams, and data dictionaries.
  • Partner with data stewards and cybersecurity professionals (IT and Business) to ensure data integrity, quality, and security across all data systems.
  • Partner with IT Infrastructure to optimize data storage and retrieval processes to improve performance and efficiency.
  • Partner with IT and Business professionals to lead data integration efforts, including ETL processes, to consolidate data from various sources.
  • Work with IT and business teams to define and enforce data governance policies and standards.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices in data architecture, analytics, and AI.

Qualifications

  • 5-8 years of experience working in Data & Analytics
  • Experience with SAP
  • Experience with Microsoft Fabric, OneLake
  • Experience integrating SAP, Microsoft, and other platforms
  • Time management.
  • Ability to manage several projects simultaneously from design to implementation.
  • Ability to communicate technical information to other technical team members but also to coworkers and leaders in other departments who may not have knowledge of networking technical terminology.
  • Ability to create coherent, clean documentation and presentations for complex environments / technical concepts using MS Visio, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Effective English communication skills, including oral and written. Spanish and/or Portuguese speaking is a plus.
  • Travel up to 15%

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data & Analytics similar technical degree, and/or equivalent experience
