Internal Audit Intern

Job Description
Stepan Company is looking for a motivated individual to join our Northbrook, IL based Internal Audit team as a summer intern to assist with day-to-day operations and projects. Internship projects will include testing of Internal Controls over Financial Reporting (ICFR), supporting operational audit procedures, and contributing to departmental continuous improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with evaluation of design and operating effectiveness of internal controls, as mandated by Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) Section 404
- Assemble relevant information for use in planning and execution of risk-based projects
- Develop and prepare internal audit templates and workpapers
- Provide administrative support to the Internal Audit team
- Effectively communicate with employees at all levels of the organization to support the Internal Audit team
Qualifications
- Excellent oral and written communication, as well as interpersonal skills
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to multi-task
- Ability to be proactive and meet project deadlines
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a hybrid team environment
- Self-starter with good problem-solving skills
- Detailed oriented and strong analytical skills
- Prior professional experience preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Experience with data analytics is strongly desired
- Foreign language proficiency (Spanish, German, French, Mandarin) is a plus
Education
• Current student pursuing a bachelor’s or graduate degree in Accounting with an interest in audit (rising juniors and seniors are preferred)
• Strong academic track record (minimum cumulative GPA of 3.3)
