Labor and Employment Paralegal

Job Description

Stepan is seeking a dynamic, experienced Labor and Employment Paralegal to join our legal team. In this critical role, you will collaborate with and support the legal and human resources teams on various matters, including consultation and case management.  Your expertise will be instrumental in ensuring compliance with various rules and regulations both inside and outside the U.S.  As part of our global chemical company, you’ll work closely with the legal team and across the organization at all levels.
Responsibilities:
• Work with Legal department attorneys to review and consult on employee matters and develop best practices and process improvements    
• Draft legal documents, communications, and reports under attorney supervision    
• Support compliance activities in areas such as EEO, OFCCP, employment law, training requirements, hiring practices, disability accommodation, drug testing, workforce data related privacy, and general employee policies    
• Update and manage company policies, employment agreement templates, process documents, and other forms    
• Conduct preliminary legal analysis/assessment of employment matters and manage or assist with case development and analysis, information organization, and stakeholder communication    
• Assist the Legal department with litigation matters, including implementing and maintaining legal holds and maintaining a litigation tracker    
• Work with outside counsel on employment and litigation matters and manage outside counsel invoicing    
• Develop and implement best practices and process improvements that enhance the employment law function

Qualifications

• A minimum of five years of legal experience primarily focused on labor and employment matters.  Prior in-house experience with a manufacturing company preferred.
• Ability to handle multiple matters and maintain discretion and confidentiality
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders across multiple teams.
• Comfortable with identifying, assessing and escalating issues, as needed
• Excellent communication and organizational skills with attention to detail.

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Paralegal Studies or Legal Studies or Bachelor’s degree and a Paralegal Certificate from an ABA-accredited program, preferred.
