Job Description
As a Senior Regulatory Scientist in the Biocide Regulatory Team at Stepan Company. You will join a our regulatory team supporting the management of regulatory compliance activities for our biocide portfolio of antimicrobial pesticides. This role is responsible for overseeing regulatory risk management programs, including Stepan, third-party, and regulatory agency audits, while helping ensure ongoing compliance across the biocide business. The Senior Regulatory Scientist will work closely with internal stakeholders and external partners to support Stepan’s network of biocide formulators and sub-registrants. Success in this role requires strong communication skills, exceptional attention to detail, sound judgment, and a high level of professionalism, with a commitment to upholding all business and regulatory ethics standards.
Key Responsibilites:
Manage Stepan’s Biocide Formulator Audit Program
- Identify and prioritize formulator companies for audit activities and coordinate audit readiness with key business contacts.
- Serve as the primary liaison for internal, third-party, and regulatory agency audits.
- Manage relationships and activities with external audit service providers.
- Review audit findings and develop corrective action reports outlining required actions, timelines, and compliance expectations.
- Partner with formulators and sub-registrants to implement and track corrective action plans to completion.
- Review and support updates to contractual agreements and regulatory documentation.
- Coordinate review of commercial product labels against EPA Master Labels and facilitate cross-functional label assessments.
- Issue final audit reports documenting corrective actions, compliance updates, and process improvements.
- Review indemnification agreements and coordinate any required updates.
- Maintain and manage audit tracking systems, prioritizing regulatory agency audits and ensuring timely follow-up.
- Apply regulatory audit learnings across the biocide network to strengthen compliance and mitigate business risk.
Support Stepan’s Biocide Network & License Approval Process
- Support management of Stepan’s biocide formulator and sub-registrant network to ensure compliance with US EPA FIFRA regulations.
- Facilitate activation and administration of licensing agreements.
- Review sub-registrant labels against EPA Master Labels and guide partners through the approval process.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure accurate, compliant, and timely label approvals.
- Respond to regulatory inquiries from customers, sales teams, and business partners.
- Provide regulatory guidance to support commercialization, product stewardship, and licensing activities.
Compliance Management
- Develop, implement, and maintain regulatory compliance programs supporting Stepan’s biocide portfolio.
- Conduct compliance reviews, audits, and risk assessments to identify and mitigate regulatory risks.
- Monitor adherence to applicable laws, regulations, and internal policies.
- Deliver regulatory training and compliance guidance to internal teams and external partners.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives that enhance regulatory compliance and operational effectiveness.
Qualifications
• 3 - 5 years of regulatory experience with a chemical company.
• FIFRA registration experience required; experience with Antimicrobials is beneficial.
• Ability to interact effectively with business leaders, government agencies and trade associations.
• Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills.
• Strong competency in project management, negotiation, and communication.
• Strong business acumen, problem solving and decision-making skills.
• Ability to communicate complex technical regulatory issues with diverse audiences and personnel, including internal stakeholders and regulatory authorities.
• Ability to work with cross-functional teams and effectively manage multiple projects, including the creation of project plans and timelines while organizing and tracking complex information.
• Experience with FIFRA label review.
Education
• Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or other science
Pay Range: $77,000 - 100,000
The salary range for this position is determined by considering a variety of factors such as skills, experience, qualifications, and the location of the position.
