Job Description

Stepan Company is seeking a Senior Regulatory Scientist to join our Global Regulatory team in Northbrook, IL. In this role, you will report to the Senior Registration Manager. You will join a dynamic regulatory team responsible for managing regulatory registration activities related to Stepan’s portfolio of surfactants, polymers, and other specialty ingredients.  The Senior Regulatory Scientist will be responsible for supporting the registration efforts at the federal and international level for new and updated product registrations. The Senior Regulatory Scientist will support the business by creating/maintaining SDSs, Labels, and Dangerous Goods Classifications. The position requires excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and a high degree of professionalism.

Key Responsibilities:
- Product Registration: key responsibilities include:
• Support new product development process including review of regulatory notification/registration requirements.
• Track global and country-level product notification/registration requirements including: U.S. EPA TSCA, Global Inert Registrations (i.e. US EPA FIFRA, Canada PMRA), and FDA Indirect Food Contact Clearances.
• Prepare and submit application packages for chemical product notification/registrations globally. Communicate with consultants/regulatory agencies as needed.
• Develop and maintain product notification/registration as well as regulatory databases.
• Liaison with business, supply chain and technical leaders in R&D, Marketing, Sales, as well as customers during the product development process.
• Active participation in trade associations (CPDA, ACC, etc.).
- HazCom Specialist and Dangerous Goods Classification: key responsibilities include:
• Support the company’s new product development and product change processes by developing and revising global SDS and product labels compliant in the country of manufacture and sale.
• Work in conjunction with Corporate Toxicologist to complete GHS classifications for products.
• Maintain DOT, IATA, IMDG and other dangerous goods certifications.
• Support dangerous goods classification process for commercial and experimental products.

Qualifications

• Must have 2 - 5 years of experience in U.S. or global chemical regulations and standards, experience in preparing government submissions.
• Experience in global hazard communications (SDS/Label).
• Experience in chemical industry required.
• Ability to interact effectively with business leaders, government agencies and trade associations
• Knowledge of US EPA Sustainable Futures modeling tools beneficial but not required.
• Knowledge of SAP beneficial but not required.
• Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills.
• Strong competency in project management, negotiation and communication 
• Strong business acumen, problem solving and decision-making skills and ability to manage through systems
• Dangerous Goods Certifications beneficial but not required (DOT, IATA, IMDG).

Education

Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, Toxicology, Biology or other related science required. Master's preferred.
