Chemical Process Modeler

Job Description

Stepan is seeking a Chemical Process Modeler to join our Sustainability team in Northfield, Illinois. In this role, you will report to the Director of Global Sustainability. The role will develop process models for Stepan’s global manufacturing footprint and use that information to inform strategies and planning related to emissions reduction and environmental impact. 


Key Responsibilities:
•    Develop technical models of Stepan’s chemical processes to support process optimization efforts, to enable identification of key opportunities for improved efficiency and resilience, and for more robust reporting on process and product environmental impacts.  
•    Apply modeling and analytical expertise to promote data-driven planning and cross-functional collaboration with Stepan’s engineering, R&D, EHSS, and Sustainability teams on Company priorities.
•    Develop recommendations for process improvements that promote operational excellence and progress on Company priorities, with consideration of economic impacts and cost effectiveness of proposed strategies. 
•    Facilitate standardization of knowledge management and transfer, awareness of relevant opportunities, and application of efficiency measures based on understanding of modelled processes across regions. 
•    Collaborate with Sustainability team members on product impact analyses, Company emissions mapping, and sustainability-related reporting responsibilities.
 

Qualifications

•    Modeling experience with ability to apply engineering principles, theories, and concepts with limited supervision.
•    Independently analyze and understand process flow diagrams, P&IDs, F&CDs, MOCs, equipment specifications, WI, etc. 
•    Ability to gather, analyze and interpret relevant data and draw conclusions 
•    Ability to develop solutions to problems of limited scope and complexity using basic scientific knowledge with moderate supervision
•    Experience with engineering resources and tools (e.g. Supply Chain Process Map, Aspen, Projects, Fastlook, Wonderware, Visio, SAP, etc.)   
•    Comfortable working cross-functionally with a collaborative mindset. 

Education

•    Chemical Engineering degree with at least 3 years of industrial process modeling experience.
