R&D Manager, Agricultural Solutions

Job Description

Stepan is seeking an R&D Manager to join our Agricultural Solutions team in Northfield, IL. In this role, you will report to the Technical Director for Agricultural, Construction and Industrial Solutions. The R&D Manager will be responsible for new product development and managing key projects in support of Stepan’s Agricultural Solutions business. This position plays a strategic role in advancing Stepan’s expertise and capabilities in the global Ag market. This team aligns to the North American Ag business but there is frequent coordination with resources around the globe to harmonize on projects and customer engagement. 


Key Responsibilities:
•    Manage cross-functional technical team responsible for product development, innovation and manufacturing support.
•    Develop the team with expanded capabilities and expertise. Mentor future leaders, identify and conduct professional development opportunities for the team.
•    Regularly review technical information, patents, literature, and global regulations pertinent to agrochemical market & propose projects to address.
•    Present technical information to customers to enhance relationships, Stepan image and increase sales.
•    Represent Stepan in customer meetings, trade associations and conferences. Be an advocate for the team to customers, colleagues and external parties.
•    Review laboratory notebooks, technical reports, presentation, and other documentation for team to assure quality and value.
•    Regularly update leadership on project progress, resource allocations and group needs.

Qualifications


•    Minimum 2 years direct reporting management experience with a demonstrated ability to develop high performing teams.
•    Travel required throughout North America and possibly International; approx. 15%.
•    Must be safety focused with both technical and chemical expertise.
•    Excellent organization, documentation, communication, and interpersonal skills are a must. Outstanding leadership, team building skills and a strong work ethic are also very important.
•    Must be able to coordinate with business leadership and manage changing priorities and multiple projects.

Education


•    Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of experience in chemistry, biology, agriculture or related field. Advanced degrees welcome but not required.
