Sr. R&D Manager, Agricultural Solutions

Job Description

Stepan is seeking a Senior R&D Manager to join our Agriculture Solutions team at the Stepan Agricultural Innovation Center in Winder, Georgia, 25 miles west of Athens. In this role, you will report to the Technical Director for Agricultural, Construction & Industrial Solutions. Some travel is expected within the United States and possibly international, approximately 15-20%


The Innovation Center R&D Manager will be responsible for product development and research at the Innovation Center and in coordination with global counterparts. The ideal candidate will be able to address customer needs, anticipate and plan for market changes, coordinate customer visits and tours of the facility, and work with the staff research biology team to further greenhouse research and field trial programs.


Key Responsibilities:
•    Lead development of Sustainable products for Agriculture including formulations for crop protection. Structure research programs to evaluate product-function relationships.
•    Identify new technologies and establish future research in areas such as plant health, soil health, biodiversity, precision Agriculture and related topics. 
•    Identify and partner with external organizations (Universities, Co-Operatives, Trade Organizations, etc) to expand Stepan’s knowledgebase and network within the Ag industry. 
•    Establish customer training programs and facility tour agendas for various interest and expertise levels. 
•    Represent Stepan in customer meetings, trade associations and conferences. Be an advocate for the Innovation Center & Greenhouse to customers, colleagues and external parties.
•    Develop the team towards expanded research capabilities and expertise; statistics, data science, experimental design, and related disciplines are of interest.
•    Mentor future leaders, identify and conduct professional development opportunities for the team.


•    Agricultural research and industry experience; proficiency with field trials, greenhouse management and biological testing programs are highly valued.
•    Knowledge of regulatory requirements for Agricultural ingredients, particularly FIFRA and pre- & post-harvest contact regulations.
•    Must be safety focused with both technical and chemical expertise.
•    Excellent organization, documentation, communication, and interpersonal skills are a must. Outstanding leadership, team building skills and a strong work ethic are also very important.
•    Must be able to coordinate with business leadership and manage changing priorities and multiple projects.


•    B.S or M.S. degree with 15+ years of relevant experience or PhD degree with 10+ years of experience in agriculture, agronomy, biology or related field.
