Job Description
Stepan Company is a global leader in chemical manufacturing, committed to safety, sustainability, and innovation. We are looking for a talented EHSS Leader to join our team in Pasadena, TX. The primary responsibility of this position is to align the team and support others to achieve the desired EHSS performance objectives through compliance, risk reduction, and the pursuit for injury prevention.
As an EHSS Leader, you will play a key role in providing advanced knowledge and technical expertise to drive continuous improvement in process safety, environmental compliance and HS&S initiatives. This position reports to the Site Director and partners with operations to prioritize tasks and optimize safety at the plant.
Responsibilities include:
- Align corporate and local EHSS goals and strategies, leading continuous improvement initiatives related to EHSS policies and programs
- Prioritize and manage to protect people, processes, products and the environment from exposure to injury, risk or economic loss and to meet goals and objectives
- Provide effective leadership to the EHSS Dept. through effective management of the Department’s resources to ensure continuous improvement in EHSS performance
- Oversee our site Responsible Care program to adhere to the guiding principles for personal safety, process safety, environmental stewardship and security
- Identify and overcome barriers to incident free performance
- Facilitate team meetings that objectively address problems and develop workable solutions
- Facilitate incident investigations to ensure that incidents are prevented from recurring
- Develop and maintain an effective emergency response organization capable of handling a broad range of fire, chemical release or medical emergencies
- Primary contact for governmental reporting agencies. Assures regulatory compliance requirements are clearly defined, understood and adhered to by department managers
- Lead compliance with PSM regulations, including PHAs and compliance audits.
- Develop, schedule and deliver effective EHSS training.
- Provide guidance and technical support for new processes, technology changes, and regulatory affairs. Complete risk assessments and management by metrics
- Create a team atmosphere where active participation is encouraged and supported to meet safety and environmental goals.
Qualifications
- 10 years of related experience in chemical manufacturing.
- 5 years of supervisory or leadership experience
- Commitment to continuous improvement
- Demonstrated knowledge of EHSS regulations
- Strong communication skills.
Education
- BS degree, preferably in safety, industrial hygiene, or environmental related discipline
