Job Description
The primary responsibility of the Electrical/ Instrument (E&I) Engineer located in Pasadena, Texas is to provide instrument, electrical, and technical support to ensure stable operations, and provide continuous improvement for maintaining safe day-to-day operations. This position reports to the Maintenance and Engineering Manager and partners with operations to prioritize tasks and optimize safety at the plant.
Responsibilities include:
- Assists in the troubleshooting and repair of instrumentation and electrical equipment including control valves; pressure, temperature, and flow instruments; and electrical motor control center equipment through technical analysis to determine repair process and future recommendations.
- Provides guidance to Electrical and Instrument resources for design reviews and field support in the installation of new instrumentation, controls, and power systems including conduit, cables, wiring, and systems.
- Keeps equipment operational through design analysis and establishing. Establishes maintenance practices for the optimization and ongoing functionality of site equipment including as appropriate: design specifications, repair methodology (equipment restoration), tools and methods design, development and rollout.
- Coordinates outside services as required by job plans for onsite performed specialized work.
- Provides general oversight to ensure activities are focused and aligned to Stepan priorities and all safety procedures/policies are adhered to during work.
- Ensures the appropriate assignment and utilization of E&I maintenance contractors.
- Develops and maintains preventive/predictive tasks and procedures for optimal life cycle performance.
- Identifies and supports the implementation of capital improvements that will improve the overall life cycle cost and reliability of critical production equipment.
- Establish and maintain processes for continuous improvement and cost improvement.
- Assist engineering in the design, order and installation of equipment.
- Provide technical expertise to all Instrument and Electrical Technicians about job plan development, equipment critical path, job scopes, troubleshooting and diagnosing instrument and electrical problems.
- Coordinate testing and calibration of equipment and update drawings as necessary.
- Assist maintenance planning in turnaround/outage preparation.
- Participate in Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA), Failure Modes Event Analysis (FMEA) and Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) processes.
- Be aware of the relevant requirements of the Responsible Care Management System (RC-14001) and follow plant procedures to ensure compliance with requirements.
- Support ongoing and new Maintenance initiatives.
- Support IT issues as needed.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of and experience with PLCs, ladder logic, I/O and experience with VFDs.
- Knowledge of good engineering practices, ISA, IEEE, NFPA, PM/PdM activities and other applicable standards.
- Experience in interfacing with smart field devices.
- Project concept, premise, and economic justification development experience.
- Ability to analyze, solve problems and think strategically to solve equipment issues and determine root cause failures.
Education
- Bachelors degree or equivalent experience.
Pay Range: $86,000 - $133,400
The salary range for this position is determined by considering a variety of factors such as skills, experience, qualifications, and the location of the position.
