Process Engineer

Job Description

Stepan is hiring for a Process Engineer to work in our Pasadena Manufacturing facility in Pasadena, TX, reporting to the Technical and Process Engineering Manager. This multifaceted position will be involved in capital project commissioning, process improvement activities, project development support, as well as providing technical support to a production area to ensure stable operations. The candidate will have the opportunity to be part of a new plant build and start-up.

Key Responsibilities:     

 

  • Review and participate on team to execute commissioning plans for safe and successful start-up of new Alkoxylation facility
  • Complete field reviews and walkdowns with cross-functional team
  • Support engineering team in development and management of site activity progress tracker
  • Assist in miscellaneous tasks to aid in preparation for plant start-up
  • Identify and recommend process improvements, provide plant process troubleshooting, and process optimization to improve efficiency, plant capacity, and process safety
  • Utilize skills in chemical process design, SPC data analysis, and process technology to achieve plant objectives
  • Provide technical support needed to resolve process problems and improve plant operations through the design, construction and start-up of capital projects
  • Assist in technical training of plant personnel
  • Provide support for effective resolution of quality issues, asset downtime and root cause failure analysis
  • Provide general administrative support for plant (reporting, ordering supplies, create requisitions, etc) and help coordinate team activities

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years’ experience in the chemical industry
  • Ability and flexibility to support a continuously operating manufacturing site  
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written and ability to work with a team
  • Fundamental knowledge of basic engineering principles (mass transfer, reaction, kinetics, and thermodynamics)
  • Ability to facilitate troubleshooting efforts and team meetings
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills and attention to detail

Education

  • BS required -  Chemical Engineering is preferred
  • Experience in chemical or related industries is preferred
