EHS&S Engineer

Job Description

We are looking for a talented EHS&S Engineer to join our team in coastal Wilmington, NC.  As an EHS&S Engineer, you will report to the Technical Manager and play a key role in providing advanced knowledge and technical expertise to drive continuous improvement in environmental compliance, process safety, and HS&S initiatives. This is a fantastic opportunity to collaborate with site leaders and make changes that will reduce environmental impact and foster sustainability. 

 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Leverage technology and best practices to systematically drive environmental programs to be more robust and efficient.
  • Build trusted working relationships with corporate environmental groups and regulatory agencies.  
  • Engage operations in environmental obligations and inspire a compliant and sustainable culture.
  • Develop process knowledge to aid in permitting, reporting, and understand operation’s impact on environmental performance.
  • Continuously improve air, waste, and water compliance programs to meet requirements with various regulations, including NPDES, Title V, MACT/GACT, NSPS, SPCC, RCRA, CERCLA, SARA, and industrial and construction storm water permitting.
  • Perform routine data/information management and analysis, report generation and submissions.
  • Manage and analyze routine data and information, becoming the subject matter expert on the processes that impact environmental compliance the most (ie. boiler and heater operation, WWTP operation, water treatment, vapor control device systems)
  • Support capital projects when environmental impacts exist
  • Utilizing metrics to monitor environmental compliance  

 

Other Responsibilities: 

  • Engage in process safety initiatives and provide support to the process safety engineer
  • Engage in health and safety initiatives and provide support to the H&S coordinator
  • Participate in risk assessments at the facility for anticipating, identifying and evaluating hazards as well as more formal PHAs
  • Assisting H&S roles in objectives, targets, strategies, and measures that prioritize and mitigate risks
  • Reviewing and validation of the following: process equipment design specifications, safeguard specifications, and operating procedures
  • Leading incident investigations and developing effective corrective actions to prevent recurrence

  • Adept attention to detail and time management skills that will enable strict adherence to regulatory deadlines
  • Excellent collaboration and project management skills
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and innovation
  • Ability to interpret complex technical regulations and apply concepts to the facility
  • Maintain the highest level of integrity
  • Experience in manufacturing with shift operators

Chemical Engineering Bachelor of Science
